Man charged after eight youths hit by car in Glasgow street

A man has been charged after eight youths were struck by a car that lost control in Glasgow on Monday evening.

Emergency services raced to Provanmill Road around 5.40pm after the vehicle hit eight pedestrians.

Six male teenagers, aged between 13-17, were rushed to hospital for treatment to minor injures. Two boys, aged 12, did not require hospital treatment.

Police have confirmed a 34-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with road traffic offences.

Officers say it was an "isolated incident" and there is no risk to the wider community. Enquiries remain ongoing and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Footage taken by shocked passers-by showed a huge emergency response to the incident as the Scottish Ambulance Service dispatched five ambulances, a trauma team and special operations team.

Chief Inspector Brian Fraser, area commander for Glasgow North East, said: “Police were called to a report of a crash around 5.40pm on Monday, 22 August, 2022, on Provanmill Road, Glasgow, in which a car is believed to have lost control and struck eight male youths.

“Officers attended and six male youths, aged 13-17, received treatment for minor injuries at hospital. Two youths, both aged 12, did not require hospital treatment.

“A 34-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with road traffic offences and enquiries are continuing. He will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

“The road was re-opened around 7.45pm.

“This was an isolated incident and there is no risk to the wider community.”

An SAS spokesperson said: “We received a call at 1737 hours on Monday to attend an incident on Provanmill Road, Glasgow. We dispatched 11 resources to the scene, including five ambulances, our trauma team and special operations team (SORT), with our first resource arriving at 1744.

"We transferred four patients to the Royal Hospital for Children and two patients to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.”
