Man charged after allegedly wiping his saliva on food in Lidl

A man has been charged with contaminating goods after allegedly licking his fingers and wiping them on food in Lidl.

The man, 20, from Dorset has been charged in connection with an incident in Bridport, Dorset, on Friday at around 2pm.

He is reported to have been wearing a face mask and gloves, but took his mask off to get his saliva on the food.

The man, from Bridport, was arrested and charged. He will now appear at Weybridge Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, May 6.

"The man did not have a confirmed case of COVID-19 (coronavirus) and was not displaying symptoms," Dorset Police said in a statement.

"Following enquiries, the 20-year-old local man was arrested and subsequently charged with an offence of contaminating or interfering with goods with intent under section 38 of the Public Order Act 1986."

The investigation continues.
