
A man has been charged after he allegedly punched a police officer in the face outside a licensed premises at Hamilton late on Monday night.
Police were called to help deal with an intoxicated man allegedly behaving in an offensive manner outside the Beaumont Street venue about 11pm.
Officers gave the 44-year-old Newcastle man a move-on direction for being drunk and disorderly in public.

Police said the man initially complied, before he allegedly approached the officers, swore at them and refused to leave the area.
As he was being escorted to the caged vehicle following his arrest, the man allegedly punched a Senior Constable in the face.
The officer suffered a minor injury.
The 44-year-old man was charged with continuing intoxicated behaviour after a move-on direction and assaulting police in the execution of their duty.
He was released on conditional bail.
