Man charged after allegedly pointing loaded speargun at police

A MAN was arrested on Sunday after allegedly pointing a loaded speargun at police near Morisset.

Police allege the man, 43, tried to enter a neighbouring property on Mooranga Road, Mirrabooka, about 8.40pm on Sunday, and began yelling at the owner of the property.

Lake Macquarie police arrived at the property to find the man in the front yard, where he allegedly pointed a loaded speargun at police.

After a short struggle, the man was arrested and the speargun was seized.

He was taken to Toronto police station and charged with affray, armed with intent to commit indictable offence, assault officer in execution of duty, and resist officer in execution of duty.

He was refused bail to appear at Toronto Local Court on Monday.
