A man has been charged after he allegedly hit a woman after stealing her car in North Queensland.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Finch Hatton on July 4, 2022, where they found the 69-year-old woman unconscious and performed CPR.

A police spokesman said the woman had critical injuries and died at the scene.

Police will allege a 37-year-old Rockhampton man attempted to steal her car about 6pm, before hitting her with it at the woman's Boulder Street property.

He has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, enter premises and commit an indictable offence and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Mackay Criminal Investigation Branch officer-in-charge Chris Eaton said investigators had worked on the case for seven months.

Detective Senior Sergeant Eaton praised their efforts.

The 37-year-old is due to appear in Mackay Magistrates Court on March 8.
