Anti-lockdown protesters on the streets of Melbourne.

A man who allegedly injured two police officers after he threw a glass bottle at them during Melbourne's anti-lockdown protests in September has been charged.

The 52-year-old Elwood man is facing 20 charges over his alleged involvement in protests at Richmond and Hawthorn on Saturday, September 18.

Among the allegations levelled at the man are that he threw a glass bottle directly at two police officers on Burnley Street, injuring both, threw rocks at officers on Bridge Road and resisted arrest on Barkers Road.

The charges include four counts of assaulting police, two counts of intentionally causing injury, three counts of assault with a weapon and rioting.

The man is due to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court this evening.

The violent anti-lockdown protests that took place on September 18 resulted in hundreds of arrests and injuries to at least 10 police officers, with some suffering broken bones and severe facial injuries.

Victoria Police's Professional Standards Command also launched an investigation after a photographer from The Age newspaper was pepper-sprayed by police while covering the anti-lockdown protest.
