A man has been refused bail after he allegedly led police on two pursuits through the Hunter on Monday night, allegedly reaching a speed of 150km/h in a 50km/h zone.
Police said the chase started after officers tried to stop a blue Holden Cruze, so they could breath test the driver, at about 11pm on Trafalga Street at Nelson Bay.
Police say the vehicle did not stop and officers soon found it at Fingal Bay.
The vehicle allegedly drove away at speed when police tried to stop it a second time.
Police pursued the Holden through Shoal Bay, Nelson Bay, Corlette, Salamander Bay and Anna Bay, with the car allegedly reaching 150km/h.
Police terminated the pursuit after officers lost sight of the vehicle, before it was later found on Marsh Road at Salt Ash and a second chase began.
Officers used road spikes on Nelson Bay Road at Salt Ash before the vehicle stopped on the Pacific Highway north of Six Mile Road.
Police allege a 31-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman left the car and fled into bushland, but they were quickly arrested.
Police allegedly found methylamphetamine during a search of the man.
The 31-year-old was charged with six counts including police pursuit, supply prohibited drug, drive while disqualified and breach of bail.
He was refused bail in Newcastle court on Tuesday, where the matter was adjourned to June 15.
The woman was released for medical reasons.
Inquiries are ongoing.
