Man charged after allegedly burning cars, bins at Raymond Terrace

A man has been charged with allegedly setting fire to several cars and bins in the Raymond Terrace area earlier this month.

Police were called to a dance studio on Port Stephens Road about 9.15pm on December 12 after a report that it was well alight after a fire spread from a burning garbage bin.

The fire was extinguished and the building sustained major damage.

Two days later, a pair of bins were set alight on William Street.

Emergency crews were then called to Port Stephens Road the following day where they found two cars on fire - the blaze also damaged a nearby building.

Another vehicle was set alight in the carpark off Sturgeon Street about 1am on December 18.

The fire was extinguished, but the blaze damaged a nearby shed.

Police arrested an 18-year-old man at Waratah West on Monday and charged him with five counts of malicious damage.
