Man charged after alleged 'stabbing' outside Paisley polling station

A man has been charged and is due in court in connection with a serious assault outside a Paisley polling station.

Carnage broke out on Broomlands Street in Paisley on Thursday morning, May 6, as e mergency crews were called to reports of an alleged stabbing at around 9.15am.

A 50-year-old man was raced to Queen Elizabeth University hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Officers are treating the assault as a targeted attack, however, it was not related to the election.

On Friday morning officers confirmed that a 25-year-old man had been arrested and in charged in connection with the serious assault.

A spokesperson from Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Police Division said: "Following yesterday's appeal, Police Scotland can confirm that a 25-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a serious assault in the Paisley area.

"The incident took place around 9.15am on Thursday, May 6, on Broomlands Street.

"The man is expected to appear in court on Monday, May 10."
