Man charged after alleged stabbing in Newcastle city centre

A man is set to appear in court after an alleged stabbing in Newcastle city centre.

Emergency services were called to a report of an assault at an address on Stowell Street in Newcastle shortly after 9pm on Saturday night.

On arrival, officers found a 33-year-old man in the area who had sustained injuries consistent with a stabbing and he was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 22-year-old was arrested in connection with the incident.

On Monday, a spokesperson for Northumbria Police confirmed that he had been charged with wounding with intent to commit GBH and possession of a bladed article.

He is set to appear at North Tyneside Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Earlier, a spokesperson for the force said: "Anyone who was in the area of Stowell Street on Saturday evening, and saw the incident in question, is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log 1165 27/03/21."
