Man charged after alleged shooting in Ardrossan leaves man dead

A man has been charged after an alleged shooting in Ardrossan left another man dead.

We told how Paul Cairns, 42, was found seriously injured at a property in the town's Nithsdale Road at around 4.50pm on Sunday.

Emergency services raced to Paul's aid but he died at the scene.

Police confirmed that a 42-year-old man has been charged in connection with the death.

He is expected to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

A spokesperson from Ayrshire Police Division said: "With reference to the death of Paul Cairns, 42, at a house in Nithsdale Road, Ardrossan, on Sunday, May 24.

"A 42-year-old man has now been charged in connection with the death."

The spokesperson added: "A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

"He is expected to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Tuesday, May 26."
