Man charged after alleged 'murder bid' at East Kilbride shopping centre

A man has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged attempted murder at a Scots shopping centre last week.

The 24-year-old was found seriously injured outside Calderwood Square in East Kilbride on Wednesday- with police saying he had been stabbed.

Emergency services cordoned off the scene with only the pharmacy, some delis and hairdressers were open after the shocking alleged attack between 9 and 10pm.

CID officers were on the scene and uniformed officers have been carrying out door-to door-enquiries at flats above the shops, with CCTV footage also being examined.

Police found the stricken man and opened an attempted murder probe.

This morning they announced a 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection and is due to appear in court today.

A statement from Lanarkshire Police division today read: "Man arrested - A 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the attempted murder of a 24-year-old man who was found seriously injured in Calderwood Square, East Kilbride, on Wednesday, 24 November, 2021.

"He is due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday, 29 November, 2021."

Following the alleged attack locals told the Daily Record of their shock at the incident at the popular shopping arcade.
