Man charged after alleged axe robbery at Arbroath shop

A man has been charged after a shop in Arbroath was robbed by an axe-wielding thug.

The 29-year-old was arrested in connection with the incident which took place at a store on Ponderlaw Street at around 6am on Saturday, July 18.

A member of staff was allegedly threatened with the weapon, but thankfully nobody was injured during the incident.

He is due to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court on Thursday, July 30.

Detective Constable, Paul Hardie of Dundee CID, said: "I would like to thank members of the public who came forward with information in relation to this enquiry and also to those who shared our appeal."

A full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
