A man who was out celebrating his birthday at a city centre eatery was left astonished after asking a waiter for the final bill.
Andy Yates stated that he was out for a birthday celebration meal with five other family members when they were told that a man, who was also dining in the restaurant at the time, had paid £160 towards their meal.
He now wants to thank the man who left "a large sum of money" behind at the Mei Mei Chinese Restaurant in Liverpool, reports Liverpool Echo.
Sharing the kind gesture on Facebook, Andy wrote: "I'm severely disabled. My family & I went to Mei Mei's on Berry St. for a birthday meal.
"Six of us had a lovely meal and when we went to pay for it we were informed that a gentleman who had just eaten in there with his own family had left a large sum (£160) of money to put towards our meal.
"I don't know this gentleman whatsoever myself but if you do please pass on my sincere thanks. There's some very generous people in this city xx."
The post received more than 2000 likes and more than 180 shares, with many people taking to the comments to praise the kind gesture.
