Man caught with £3k-worth of drugs in his Mercedes jailed

A man caught with £3,000-worth of drugs in his Mercedes has been jailed.

Numan Ahmed, 36, has been convicted of four counts of possession with intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs.

Police stopped him while on patrol in Hulme. Officers initially witnessed 'suspicious activity' involving a Mercedes C-Class.

When officers stopped Ahmed in Whalley Range, they found a 'large amount of cash' in the vehicle.

A stash of Class A and Class B drugs - with a suspected street value of around £3,000 - was also discovered, alongside 'a number' of mobile phones.

Ahmed, of Outwood Road, Heald Green, Stockport, was arrested and taken into police custody.

He pleaded not guilty, but was convicted following a seven-day trial at Manchester Crown Court.

Ahmed was jailed for five years.

Following the sentencing, PC David Stapley of GMP’s City of Manchester division said: “Today’s result just goes to show that Greater Manchester Police is committed to safeguarding communities from drugs and that neighbourhood officers are key when it comes to identifying and arresting those responsible for supplying illegal substances.

“I hope this sentencing serves as a stark warning to those involved or considering getting involved in this type of crime, which so often blights communities, that officers are observing, will pursue you and ultimately bring you to face justice."
