Man caught trying to steal policeman’s bike

CHANDIGARH: A UT traffic police constable caught a bike lifter red handed while he was trying to steal his bike from Sector 49 and handed him over to the Sector 49 police. The accused was produced before a local court, which remanded him in police custody.

Police said the accused was identified as Sumit, 20, a resident of Jagatpura, Mohali.

In his complaint, Jile Singh, a resident of IRB complex, Sarangpur, said that he works in the traffic police wing of UT police and was deployed at the light point of sectors 46/47/48/49. The constable reached a light point for his duty on his motorcycle on Friday morning. He parked his motorcycle near the PWD store in Sector 49 and got to work managing traffic at the lightpoint.

In the meantime, he noticed that his bullet motorcycle was missing from the place he had parked it in and he started looking for it.

Later, the constable noticed an unknown person dragging his bike from around 100 meters away from where he had parked it. He chased and nabbed the accused.

Constable informed about the incident at 112 and a police team reached the spot. The accused, Sumit was arrested and a case registered.
