Man caught smuggling cocaine in artificial penis could be jailed for three years

A British man who tried to smuggle cocaine into Belgium hidden inside an artificial penis could face three years in prison.

The man failed a drugs test when border guards detected cocaine on his arrival at Brussels airport.

Police then found 127g of cocaine inside the fake appendage when he was taken for examination at a local hospital, local outlet Nieuwsblad reported.

The man said the drugs were for his own recreational use and that he was given them in Jamaica while visiting his mother.

Prosecutors said they could not prove that he was smuggling the drugs in to be sold, but still pushed for a 36-month prison sentence.

The man's lawyer said this would be too harsh because of his health problems and asked for a suspended prison sentence.

He told a court: "My client has kidney failure and needs to exercise and eat a good diet."

The man is due to be sentenced on June 24.
