Man caught on CCTV peeing behind someone's house before climbing into their back garden

A man has apparently been caught on CCTV in broad daylight urinating behind someone's house.

The footage, captured by a neighbouring security camera, appears to show a man casually walking behind two properties in Newport on the afternoon of Monday, January 18 and using a recycling box to climb over a garden wall - but not before relieving himself against a wheelie bin.

It's believed the man is then confronted by the home owner, who sends him packing.

"We'd been doing some work on our house and had the windows open because it was getting dusty, which is when we heard all this commotion outside," said hairdresser Kay Cobner, who lives in the city's Lliswerry area.

"We saw my neighbour giving someone their marching orders and he told us that his wife had looked out the kitchen window and seen this guy wandering around in their back garden.

"Shortly afterwards he was back in the alleyway between our two houses and rummaging through the stuff we'd been clearing out of the attic.

"None of it was of any worth, just an old computer monitor, a broken keyboard etc.

"So my neighbour told him to knock on our door if he wanted to find out if anything was for sale, at which point he walked off."

The 35-year-old mum-of-four added that it was only when she watched her CCTV that she realised the full extent of what the man had been up to.

"We could see him wandering through to the back of the houses where he started to snoop about.

"At which point I said to my partner, 'What's he doing now?' and he replied, 'Well, I'm no expert but, to me, he looks like he's having a wee'.

"Can you believe that? In broad daylight, during the middle of lockdown, when lots of people are at home - the sheer cheek of it," Kay added.

"He then grabbed one of our recycling boxes to help him climb over next door's wall."

The man, who was reported to the police, is described as being in his early 20s, with blond hair, blue eyes and wearing a baseball cap, tracksuit and trainers.

He is also said to speak with an Eastern European accent.

A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: "We would like to remind residents to always be vigilant and report any suspicious activity in their area to 101."
