Man caught drink driving with son in his new car banned from the roads for three years

A restaurant supervisor bought a new car after ending a driving ban - but ended up barred from the roads for another three years.

Riaz Chowdhury had "a couple of whiskies" before heading home from work with his son as a passenger, Nottingham Magistrates' Court heard.

He admitted having 76 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

Community work for 150 hours were ordered from Chowdhury, 48, of Wye Gardens, Nottingham . He must pay £170 costs.

District Judge Leo Pyle told him: "This is aggravated because of your record, with two similar offences.

"This was irresponsible because your reading was pretty much twice the legal limit.

"Driving with a passenger - your son - put everybody at risk. That includes other road users, yourself and your son."

Lucy Whitaker, mitigating, said that Chowdhury did not feel well and pulled into a petrol station, with the plan that his son would take over at the wheel.

Chowdhury had been worrying about some land he owns and "had a couple of whiskies at the restaurant with some food before he went home."

Miss Whitaker said that he has several health problems and added: "He didn't intend to commit this offence.

"When he got his licence back, he treated himself to a new car. It is a costly mistake.

"He is very embarrassed and is not even a big drinker. He is genuinely sorry."
