Man caught begging fined at Nottingham Magistrates' Court

A man has been handed a £42 bill after a police officer heard him begging on Market Street.

When the case was outlined to Nottingham magistrates, they found Kevan Hunt guilty of the offence. He did not attend the hearing.

Anthony Cheung, prosecuting, said that the officer was on the street just after 5pm on September 19.

"He walked past the defendant and heard him asking for money.

"He was effectively saying, 'help the homeless, some small change, please.'

"As a result, he is arrested," added Mr Cheung.

A £10 fine and £32 government tax were ordered from Hunt, 36, of Barrique Road, Nottingham. He was given two weeks to clear the bill.

The court heard that he was convicted of the same offence on August 31 and given an absolute discharge.
