Man charged in trio of Aurora carjackings

Calvin Taylor

A man was charged after carjacking three motorists over a period of 12 minutes last weekend in west suburban Aurora.

Calvin Taylor, 26, faces charges of armed violence, aggravated vehicular hijacking, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, unlawful use and weapon and aggravated unlawful use and weapon in a vehicle, Aurora police said.

About 5:25 a.m. June 29, he carjacked a man at gunpoint at a gas station in the 300 block of South Broadway Street, police said. Taylor drove off in the man’s 2004 Kia minivan.

Minutes later, it was found crashed a few miles away at Lake Street and Indian Trail, police said. A loaded handgun was found in the passenger compartment.

A 33-year-old man from rural Sandwich stopped to help, but Taylor went into his 2005 Chevrolet and drove off, police said

About 5:37 a.m., Taylor rolled the Chevrolet over in a crash on I-88 near Farnsworth, police said. An 18-year-old woman from Sycamore stopped to help, but he took her Dodge Avenger and drove off eastbound.

About two hours later, Illinois State Police found the stolen Dodge about near I-290 in west suburban Bellwood, police said. After a brief pursuit, Taylor crashed the vehicle and was arrested.

Taylor was treated for a broken leg and ankle, and no other injuries were reported.

He’s being held at Kane County Jail on $500,000 bail, police said.

Taylor was also wanted by the Illinois Department of Corrections on a parole violation warrant for a motor vehicle theft conviction, police said. He will be returned to IDOC custody at a later date.
