Man called 999 and told them "I've murdered my missus"

A man who killed his partner in a horrific hammer attack rang 999 and said "I've murdered my missus".

John Garner made the chilling call after bludgeoning Teresa Garner, 46,  in what prosecutors called a "sustained and ferocious" hammer attack at their home.

The 51-year-old, of Penyffordd,  was found blood stained and drunk in their home in North Wales by police,  alongside the body of Teresa who had 16 separate  "catastrophic and fatal" head injuries.

Sentencing Garner to life with a minimum of 22 years in prison, Judge Rhys Rowlands said he was "clearly a dangerous individual".

He said: "It was in any view a cowardly, brutal and sustained assault on a defenceless woman. "

During the trial at Mold Crown Court the jury heard how the brutal  attack on the mum-of-three  began in the landing and ended in the bathroom.

There were also signs Teresa Garner had been punched or slapped to the mouth and there were defensive wounds on her hands.

In a statement from Teresa's 11-year-old son Rhys Garner the court was told of the heartbreak he and older sister Kim and younger brother Lewis have been through since their mum was killed.

The young boy said: "We miss our mum every day. She was a lovely mum. John Garner has taken our mum away from us in a horrible way and I hate him for that. If we had one wish it would be to have her back with us.
