A man air-lifted to hospital in a critical condition after he was pulled from a burning unit block at Cooks Hill this week is now listed as being in a serious but stable condition, according to Northern Sydney Local Health District.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter air-lifted the 41-year-old in a critical condition, and on life support, to Royal North Shore Hospital on Thursday morning after he was found in the blaze on Darby Street.
NSW Ambulance, police and firefighters were called to the scene about 7am after reports of an explosion.
Police said an off duty nurse treated the man before paramedics arrived.
A Westpac Rescue Helicopter spokesperson said on Thursday the man had suffered burns to 78 per cent of his body and his airway had been affected.
All other residents were evacuated from the block of units - including three elderly women who were rescued by man passing by, who noticed the smoke.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire, which took place on the block between Bull Street and Parry Street.
