Man brutally beaten in Scots street by attacker who sped off with woman in black SUV

A man is recovering in hospital after being savagely beaten in a quiet residential street in a Scots town.

The 27-year-old is said to be in a 'stable' condition following the serious assault in East Kilbride on Sunday.

He was walking along Melbourne Avenue when he was attacked by a man, who may have been with a woman, before they escaped in a black SUV.

Emergency services raced to the scene and the man was taken by ambulance to Hairmyres Hospital where he is being treated for head and leg injuries.

Hospital staff describe his condition as stable.

Detective Constable Stuart Burnside of Cambuslang Police Office said: “Our enquiries are continuing into this incident to establish the exact circumstances and officers have been carrying out enquiries and studying CCTV footage from in and around the local area to gather more information.

"This is a quiet residential area, and I would urge any witnesses, or anyone who seen this man and woman in the area to contact us.

"Anyone with information that may assist our investigation is asked to contact Cambuslang Police Office through 101 quoting reference number 2456 of 6 December.

"Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained."
