Man broke into family's home and stole bank cards and jewellery

A family were left in "a state of shock" after a man broke into their home and stole bank cards, prescription glasses and jewellery.

It happened in the West Derby area and police are appealing for CCTV and doorbell footage to help with their investigation.

Officers attended the property at around 9.50pm on Sunday, August 28, after it was reported a man had broken into the house on St James Close and a number of items were reportedly stolen, including a purse with bank cards, prescription glasses and jewellery. No one was injured during the incident.

Detective Inspector Alan Nuttall said: "This was a very distressing experience for the family who were left in a state of shock.

"Burglaries can have a massive impact on the person and families affected as they have had their home invaded which is an awful experience to go through, and can often have a massive and long-lasting impact on victims.

"We encourage people to come forward if you know anything about the burglary and urge residents around Mill Lane and surrounding area to check their CCTV and doorbell footage to see if you have captured any suspicious activity from the night between 9pm and 11pm. We'll act on all information provided.

"Burglary offences have decreased year on year across Merseyside thanks largely to Operation Castle, an operation targeted at reducing burglaries, bringing offenders to justice, and ultimately sparing residents the anguish of being a victim of burglary."

If you have CCTV, smart doorbell or dashcam footage of suspicious activity between 9pm and 11pm on Sunday, August 28 around the Mill Lane to West Derby Village area, then it can be uploaded here.
