Man bled to death in Airdrie street following Easter Sunday "disturbance"

A MAN who bled to death in an Airdrie street on Easter Sunday after allegedly being stabbed has been named locally as Peter Mcelroy.

Local sources told the Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser's sister paper the Daily Record Peter, 48, died at the corner of Bell Street and High Street at 4.40pm.

Police and paramedics wearing protective masks due to the Covid-19 pandemic raced to the scene after receiving reports of a “disturbance” and surrounded the victim.

But, sadly, Peter died soon after and a police cordon was thrown up and patrol cars used to block off the road.

Police Scotland have now revealed a 38-year-old man has been arrested in connection with Peter's death.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We can confirm that a man, 38, has been arrested in connection with the death of a 48-year-old man in Aridrie.

"Officers received were called to the High Street in Airdrie around 4.40pm on Sunday, April 12, following a disturbance.

"A full report will be sent to the procurator fiscal in due course."
