Man blasted for 'sad' sandwich he made for daughter as people say it's 'child abuse'

If your significant other isn't usually the one to cook, it's really appreciated if they suddenly make the effort to help you out.

But one woman no doubt wishes she'd just done it herself after her husband offered to make their daughter's lunch for her – and the result was shocking.

The anonymous woman took to popular forum Reddit to share a picture of her daughter's "sad" lunch, with the caption: "This sad cheese sandwich made for our daughter's lunch today [sic]".

The picture showed a piece of white bread, with a light layer of butter just in the middle, followed by what can only be described as a light sprinkling of grated cheese.

Unsurprisingly, many fellow Redditors took to the comment section to blast the husband's creation – which one person described as "child abuse".

However, another pointed out: "Negligence, but not abuse, unless there is proof of repeated behaviour."

Another added: "Weaponised incompetence like this is a form of emotional abuse both to the child and partner."

Weaponised incompetence is when someone pretends they can't perform as simple task, such as make lunch, so they someone else will do it for them.

Several commenters agreed, with another accusing the husband of making a "4D chess move", adding: "Don't be fooled! Your husband simply does not want to get stuck on lunch duty and is trying to appear as unqualified as possible in order to never be asked to do this again. It's the only way this makes sense."

Others felt really sorry for the daughter, with one person saying: "Your husband was actually gonna pack this for his own daughter? I feel bad for your daughter honestly. He couldn't take 30 more seconds to make her a real sandwich?"

One person simply said: "This is honestly unacceptable," while another said: "Straight to jail."

A dietician has previously shared how to make the perfect lunch box for kids' lunches – and it needs to be balanced.

Dietician Jaime Rose Chambers opts for a number of different foods separated in different compartments in a container. This method works for picky eaters.

She recommends keeping lunch foods 'familiar' for young children – and then making 'minor adjustments' to keep things interesting and widen their pallets.
