The man blasted dead in a gangland-style hit in Ballyfermot this morning reportedly opened the door to his killer.
The Dubliner was shot multiple times in the hallway of a Cherry Orchard home at around 11am today in what sources have said was "a well organised hit".
It's understood that the deceased was blasted at least twice in the chest and once in the arm at close range by the gunman who then fled the scene.
Residents told of hearing around seven shots fired in the horror hit, which happened in Croftwood Green at around 11am - with one neighbour telling Dublin Live "from what I heard, he didn't stand a chance".
A car was discovered on fire on nearby Le Fanu Drive not long after.
Sources have told Dublin Live that the shooting was "a well organised" hit and gardai now fear reprisals.
The victim of this morning's shooting is understood to have been known to gardai, and had recently returned from overseas.
They said in a statement that they are "investigating a fatal shooting incident that occurred at a house in the Croftwood Park area of Ballyfermot on 27/07/2020 at approximately 11am".
The statement continued: "A man (age currently unknown) received a number of gunshot wounds and has been pronounced dead at the scene.
"The scene is currently preserved for a technical examination.
"Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information, particularly anyone who was in the area between 10:30am - 11:30am, to contact Ballyfermot Garda Station on 01 666 7200 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111."
