Man bites police dog while resisting arrest

A man has been arrested for biting a police dog while officers were investigating reports of a shooting in New Hampshire.

The incident took place on Sunday when police arrived at a home in the town of Boscawen following reports a person had been shot.

Two people at the property were wanted on outstanding warrants and tried to flee when police attempted to arrest them, police said.

"Both of them resisted arrest and one very strongly resisted arrest," explained lieutenant Jason Killary of the Boscawen Police Department.

"He bit the dog, the dog bit him, he ended up getting Tasered."

The man, who has not been identified, was charged with resisting arrest and assault on a police dog known as K9 Veda.

As well as biting, he was said to have kicked and punched K9 Veda after he was discovered hiding under a pile of clothes.

It was then that the man put the dog in a choke hold and bit her on the head, police said.

New Hampshire Canine Trooper's Association said on Facebook that K9 Veda was uninjured and cleared to return to duty.

"If you get into a biting competition with a police dog, you're not going to win," added Lieutenant Killary.

"They're pretty good at that."
