Man bites police after being chased through people's gardens

A man bit a police officer after he was pulled over on a suspected stolen motorbike.

Officers spotted a motorbike being driven erratically in Bootle yesterday. When they tried to stop the vehicle the driver made off on foot.

Officers chased the man through local gardens before arresting him.

While the man was being arrested he bit one of the officers at the scene.

Officers found a number of items, one being a backpack containing a large amount of cannabis.

Further checks of the motorbike also found that it was stolen from the Manchester area earlier this month.

A 34-year-old man from Kirkdale has been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, possession with intent to supply cannabis, assault of an emergency worker and disqualified driving.

Sefton Police Facebook page posted last night: "Operation Pelican Officers have this evening arrested a 34-year-old male from the Kirkdale area for Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Possession with Intent to Supply Cannabis, Assault of an Emergency Worker and Disqualified Driving.

"Officers sighted a motor bike being driven erratically in the Bootle area. Officers have attempted to stop the vehicle however the driver has made off on foot into nearby gardens.

"Officers have pursued the male where he has been detained in a garden. During being detained the male has bitten a Police Officer.

"Officers have then recovered numerous items one of these being a back pack containing a large quantity of cannabis

"Checks of the motor bike have then confirmed that it was outstanding stolen from the Manchester area earlier in November"
