A man bit and stabbed a police dog in northern California, local police have said.

Police were called to reports of a man who was attempting to break into a home in Fairfield county, northern California at 2.20pm on April 20.

Also, police received a report from an Amazon employee who claimed the suspect had threatened to kill him and take his vehicle.

Officers from the Fairfield Police Department arrived at the scene to find a male, 44, suspect inside the property.

A police department statement on its Facebook page said: “Fairfield Officers responded and saw the male suspect inside the residence running around. Officers attempted to call the suspect out numerous times without success.

“After numerous attempts to call the suspect out of the home, and the use of de-escalation techniques and tools, officers entered the home in an attempt to arrest the suspect.

Despite the attack, the police said Cort was taken to hospital and he is recovering.
