Man behind bars for attacking Wishaw store workers and police officer

A man has been put behind bars after attacking shop workers and assaulting a police officer in Wishaw.

Ross Greechan appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week to answer a total of six charges against him.

Greechan pleaded guilty to assaulting a worker at the Tesco store in Belhaven Road on June 2 by pushing him on the body.

On the same date, the 23-year-old, of Greenhead Road, Cambusnethan, attacked a second male employee by repeatedly trying to punch him.

Greechan then pushed a third Tesco worker on the body before damaging a wheelchair within the store by throwing it.

The final charge Greechan admitted was assaulting a male police officer in the town’s Main Street on the same date.

During this incident, the accused struck the officer on the head with his hand before repeatedly pushing him on the body which caused the officer to fall to the ground and struggling violently with him.

Greechan committed the offences while he was released on police bail.

In court this week, Sheriff Ray Small opted to send Greechan to prison for a total of 140 days.

This includes a 20 day stint for committing the offences while he was on bail.
