Man behind bars after carrying out assault near Wishaw pub

A man has been jailed for 20 months after carrying out an assault in Wishaw while on bail.

Alexander Sirrell, 28, a prisoner, attacked his victim in a common close next to the Auld Hoose pub in Cambusnethan Street on August 15 last year

The charge stated he assaulted the man to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement by striking him on the head with his hands, feet or an “unknown object”.

The attack continued while the victim was on the ground.

Sirrell denied the charge, but a jury at Hamilton Sheriff Court found him guilty.

Sheriff Douglas Brown backdated the sentence to October 11 and ordered that Sirrell be supervised for six months on his release from prison.
