Man beaten up outside cinema for leaking Avengers: Endgame spoilers

A loud-mouthed fan was battered by fellow cinema-goers after blurting out key elements of the plot of one of the most anticipated films of the year.

The man was leaving the three-hour screening of Avengers: Endgame when he revealed several spoilers to crowds waiting to watch the movie in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong.

Endgame is the final installment of the Avengers series and the sequel to last year's Infiinity War.

It follows directly on from the 2018 release which saw villain Thanos wipe out half the world's population, although questions remained as to why he didn't kill all the Avengers.

It is the culmination of 11 years' of films which began in 2008 with Iron Man and is the 22nd release.

Marvel enthusiasts packed out theatres across the world this week as it was released.

Directors the Russo Brothers published an open letter on social media ahead of its release urging the public to avoid giving away the plot.

A photo of the bloodied fan has been circulating on social media and has sparked a mixed reaction, with some saying he got his "just desserts".

Within 12 hours of its release in China it had made $100 million, there as well as in Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines it smashed records for the busiest opening day.

It was projected to hit $1 billion within its first week and is already the most popular film of the year, with its only likely challenger coming in the shape of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker which is out at the end of the year.
