Man batters schoolboy in 'menacing' attack at football pitch

A schoolboy suffered a "menacing" attack in which he was battered by a man in Anfield yesterday.

The 14-year-old was punched several times in the face before being hit in the back of the head, on a football pitch on Lower Breck Road.

He was taken to hospital for treatment for serious injuries to his face.

The suspect was described as an 18 to 20 year old man with blonde hair and a light brown beard wearing a black jacket, top and bottoms.

Detective Inspector Chris Saidi said: “This was a menacing attack which has left a teenage boy with serious facial injuries.

“We have carried out a number of CCTV and witness enquiries near the area and would implore anyone who thinks they know the suspect or saw the incident to contact police.

“If you were in the area at the time and may have witnessed the attack or have any information about it, we would like to hear from you.”
