Man battered, dumped on the street and then run over by taxi

A man was left in a serious condition after being attacked outside a pub near a taxi rank.

The 55-year-old man, from Runcorn, was stood close to the Red Lion pub, on London Road, Warrington, when he was set upon by a group of young men.

He was left in the road after the attack and then a taxi ran over his leg as the gang fled the scene in a car.

Police said the happened at around 12.30am, on Sunday, December 5.

The victim was taken to Warrington Hospital and remains in a serious but stable condition with injuries to his head and leg.

Cheshire Police is now appealing for anyone with information to come forward, as they believe there were multiple people in the area who may have witnessed the crime.

Detective Constable Leah Greenacre, from Warrington CID, said: "The victim sustained serious injuries following the assault and is currently in hospital.

"We are piecing together the circumstances that led to him being attacked and who is responsible.

"I believe numerous people were in the area at the time the assault occurred and may have information. I would encourage you to please contact us if you have not yet spoken to an officer.

"While we are reviewing CCTV I would ask anyone with footage including dash cam to get in touch if it could assist with the investigation.

"I would also appeal to the taxi driver to contact us as well to help with our enquiries."
