Man banned from every garden, drive and yard in Britain for life

A brain-damaged man who attacked two women in Bristol has been jailed.

Dwayne Elliott groped his first victim outside a home in Charlotte Street in the early hours.

He then grabbed a second woman as she walked on Park Row.

Both were left "utterly terrified", Bristol Crown Court heard.

Elliott, 41, of Malago Road in Bedminster, pleaded guilty to sexual assault, committing actual bodily harm with intent to commit a sexual offence and possessing an offensive weapon.

Judge Julian Lambert jailed him for four years.

He said no secure hospital was available, so he had to use the "blunt force" of an ordinary criminal sentence.

He told Elliott: "The offences were against women who were utterly terrified by what you did.

"Your brain injury reduces your sentence somewhat."

Elliott was handed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, banning him from entering gardens, yards or drives without reasonable excuse.

He was also told to register as a sex offender indefinitely, and was made the subject of a seven-year restraining order banning him from going to Charlotte Street or Park Row.

Robin Shellard, prosecuting, said Elliott was spotted in a garden of a Charlotte Street property around 4am on October 18 last year.

When challenged he asked: "Is Lisa here?"

And when told there was no Lisa there, and asked to leave, he lunged forward, grabbed a woman around her waist and held her by her throat.

Mr Shellard told the court: "His right hand then grabbed her left breast and squeezed it several times.

"She fell back into the door and hurt her arm and back.

"He turned and left."

Elliott was picked out from a video identity parade, the court heard.

Shortly afterwards Elliott grabbed a woman on Park Row and carried her off.

Mr Shellard said: "She started screaming.

"She was almost upside down and kicking out.

"He shoved her into a puddle, grabbed her neck and held it.

"He let go and she was able to run off.

"The incident lasted around a minute and she scraped her knee in the struggle."

Elliott was identified from his DNA on the woman's neck.

The court heard police arrested him on November 22 and he voluntarily produced a sock containing two snooker balls.

He told police he couldn't recall incidents involving the women, and someone must have "spiked his coffee that night".

John Stokes, defending, said his client fell out of a tree in 2009 and sustained a brain injury.

He said a doctor saw him in 2012 and concluded his injury left him with a tendency of  impulsive behaviour, a loss of some inhibitions and possible inappropriate behaviour.

Mr Stokes said: "A custodial sentence will be particularly difficult."
