Man banned from every Asda in Greater Manchester returns to store with knife...he tried to get away with vodka, Doritos and sandwich filler

A thief who raided an Asda store for four bottles of Smirnoff vodka, Doritos, sandwich filler and fruit in Tameside has been locked up.

Faisal Iqbal Mohammad was caught trying to get rid of a knife when he was stopped by security at the store in Ashton.

He was already banned from entering every Asda store in Greater Manchester when he carried out the burglary.

Tameside Magistrates' Court heard Mohammad entered the store at about 12.30pm on Wednesday (February 12).

He filled a trolley full of goods and tried to take the tags off bottles of booze.

As he left the store, he was caught by security.

He tried to get rid of the knife underneath the chair he was sitting on.

He was then arrested by police.

The 38-year-old pleaded guilty to theft, possession of a bladed article and breach of a criminal behaviour order at Tameside Magistrates' Court on Thursday (February 13).

He was sentenced to one year in prison.

Mohammad was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £122.

Insp Lee Derbyshire posted about the sentencing on the GMP Tameside North Facebook page.

He wrote: "Top work by Ashton Town Centre officers PC Marsden and PC Davies.

"Unimpressive five-a-day attempt from Mr Mohammad".
