Man banned from driving for 79 years accused of pursuit in stolen car

Police have swooped on two alleged Hunter car thieves, with the pair - involved in unrelated cases - set to face court.

One of the men is serving a 79-year driving disqualification, police say.

Officers investigating an alleged pursuit involving a stolen car earlier this week arrested a 38-year-old man over the chase on Thursday.

Police allege the man had previously been banned from driving until 2073.

He is accused of leading officers on a chase through Lambton on Monday in a stolen gold Nissan X-Trail.

Police arrested the man at a home in Beaumont Street, Hamilton, on Thursday afternoon.

He was charged with three offences including drive conveyance without consent, police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly second or subsequent offence, and drive whilst disqualified second or subsequent offence. He was refused bail.

In another case, a 40-year-old Cessnock man was arrested at Young Road, Broadmeadow, on Thursday for the alleged theft of a Subaru sedan, along with alleged fraud offences at Jesmond, Lambton, Kotara and Charlestown using the Pay Wave function on stolen credit cards.

The man, who is on parole until next July, was charged with 13 offences including receiving stolen property, 10 counts of obtaining financial advantage by deception, driving whilst disqualified and drive conveyance without consent. He was refused bail.
