Man bailed over toxic gas attack in Qld

A man accused of releasing poisonous spray at a Queensland shopping centre has been bailed. (AAP)

A man accused of setting off a can of poisonous spray at a Queensland shopping centre has been released on bail.

Mathew Whyte, 36, is accused of assaulting six people by deliberately unleashing a cloud of noxious fumes at an Eagleby shopping centre on a busy Saturday afternoon last month.

Six people who were near a cafe and medical centre suffered respiratory reactions including a 54-year-old woman who was taken to hospital.

Whyte was arrested a few days later, after police searched a home not far from the Fryar Road complex.

On Wednesday, he was granted bail in Beenleigh Magistrates Court ahead of his next court date on August 11.

He is facing five counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, and one count each of serious assault of a person over 60, administering poison with intent to harm, possessing dangerous drugs and possessing drug utensils.
