Man baffled to receive £85 parking ticket for Morrisons car park he didn't visit

A man said he was left baffled when he received an £85 fine for parking five hours at a Morrisons car park he did not visit.

Cristian Hernandes Gioiello received a letter from Euro Car Parks fining him for a stay on Tuesday, June 22.

But the 33-year-old claims he did not visit the Nantwich supermarket that day, and is bemused by the close up photos of his licence plate.

Speaking to Cheshire Live he said the fine is an 'injustice' as he has no recollection of the trip.

He says the close photo of his licence plate is insufficient evidence of him entering the car park.

He said: ”Me and my wife feel felt very stressed and nervous about this. It felt like an injustice, we’re being fined for something we didn’t do.”

It was claimed he parked for five hours (He was fined £85)

Cristian, originally from Argentina, moved to Nantwich two years ago with his wife Natalia.

The couple say they were unsure what to do when they received the ‘confusing’ letter and took to Facebook to ask advice where they were met with support from the community.

Cristian said: “Before making the claim, we decided to post this on the Facebook community page to alert others and so that they could help us with the steps to take to make a successful claim.

“Thanks to them we got some very good advice. We are very grateful to the Nantwich community for their immediate concern and their willingness to help us.”

Following Cristian’s claim, Morrisons has since cancelled the parking charge 'as a gesture of goodwill'.

A Morrisons spokeswoman said: “I can confirm that an appeal was received on the July 5 for this parking charge and it has been cancelled as a gesture of goodwill.”

Euro Car Parks has been approached for a comment, but has received no response.
