Man baffled as Google Home speaker only responds when he speaks in cartoon-like voice

From Amazon’s Alexa to Apple’s Siri, smart assistants are now a daily part of many people’s lives.

While the smart assistants are designed to make your life easier, one Google Home owner was forced to use a rather embarrassing voice to communicate with his assistant.

Jay Cleezy, from Ontario, Canada, posted a video of the incident on YouTube, titled ‘My google home is acting weird, and now I have to use this stupid voice to work the thing…’

The video shows a living room lamp, which Mr Cleezy appears to have synced up to his Google Home speaker.

He says: “Google, turn off the living room light,” to which the smart assistant replies: “It looks like those lights haven’t been set up yet. You can do that in the Google Home app.”

However, when Mr Cleezy asks the same thing while speaking in a cartoon-like voice, the light turns off, and the speaker says: “Ok, turning two lights off.”

The reason for this issue remains unclear, although Mirror Online has contacted Google for comment.

What do to if Google Assistant doesn’t respond to you

If you’re having problems with Google Assistant, Google suggests you follow these steps to fix the issue:

1. Reboot your Google Home by disconnecting and reconnecting the power cable

2. Make sure your Google Home is powered on correctly

3. Make sure that Google Home recognises the hotword, by saying ‘Ok Google.’ The LED dot ring should spin or blink

4. Rephrase your request to make sure your assistant recognised the question correctly

If none of the above work, submit a feedback report from the Google Home app.
