A man has suffered burns to half of his body in a fire at a gin and whisky distillery in northern Tasmania.
Emergency services were called to Adams Distillery near Launceston around 10.20am on Tuesday.
The man was mixing flammable liquids as part of routine gin distilling operations when the fire broke out, police say.
He was initially treated by staff who found him outside on a lawn, before being taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition with burns to his hands, face and legs - about 50 per of his body.
"Thankfully one of the part-owners is a former paramedic. His skills were exceptional in treating his work colleague," Tasmania Fire Service senior station officer Mark Ciantar told reporters.
Workplace safety authorities and police are investigating the cause of the blaze, which is thought to have caused up to $2 million worth of damage.
