A man attempted to kidnap a 12-year-old girl walking her dog Wednesday afternoon in Montclare on the Northwest Side, police said.

About 3:35 p.m., the man allegedly began waving at the girl from the front seat of a parked dark blue van in the 6900 block of West Fletcher Avenue, Chicago police said in a community alert.

The 12-year-old attempted to ignore the man, who then exited the vehicle in a ski mask and gloves, saying “come here,” police said.

She then heard the man call out to someone inside the van saying “this one,” followed by sounds of movement in the back of the van, police said.

The girl then ran to the door of a nearby home for safety and saw the van speed away north on Newland Avenue towards Belmont Avenue, according to police.

The man was described as having blue eyes and gray hair. Police said he had a raspy, deep voice.

Anyone with information is asked to call Area Five detectives at 312-746-6554
