A Chinese man has been accused of attempting to bribe a Commonwealth official with a bag of tea stuffed with $20,000.
The 39-year-old man was extradited to Queensland after being arrested as he tried to board a flight at Sydney International Airport, police said.
The man has been accused of attempting to bribe a Commonwealth public official during a Camp Hill business meeting in Brisbane's east on July 9.
"Police allege that during the meeting, the man handed the woman a bag of tea, which was later found to contain $20,000 cash," a police statement said.
"It will be further alleged the attempted bribery was for business gain."
The female official contacted authorities and Operation Yankee Borderlands was set up in a joint investigation with Queensland Police, Australian Federal Police and the National Anti-Corruption Commission.
The Chinese man was arrested at Sydney International Airport on July 24 and extradited to Queensland the next day.
The man has been charged with one count of gift or offer a secret commission to an agent and will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
