Man attacks tourist with Parkinson's over vehicle confusion, Fla. deputies say

ORLANDO, Fla. _ Kevin Mena told deputies he thought a 66-year-old tourist was trying to steal his black Jeep sport utility vehicle, so he "decided to push him from behind," an arrest report states.

The SUV was parked in a shopping plaza Sunday evening in south Orange County.

Mena, 21, said he saw the man pulling on the door handle, trying to open it, according to the report.

Officials said the incident appeared to be a misunderstanding _ one that left the tourist with multiple broken teeth, a cut on his lip and possibly a fractured nose.

The tourist's daughter told deputies her dad, who has Parkinson's disease and was visiting from South Carolina, was confused because Mena's SUV looked similar to hers, the report states.

Deputies said surveillance video showed the man "walking at a slow pace" toward Mena's SUV, parked two spaces down from his daughter's vehicle. He tried the door handle and then Mena is seen pushing the back of the man's neck into the door, according to the report.

The man's daughter said she was loading groceries when she heard her dad yelling and then saw him near the Jeep with blood around his mouth.

She said Mena told her he thought her dad was trying to steal the SUV and then became "aggressive, hostile and left the scene without providing any type of assistance," according to the arrest report.

Emergency medical crews rushed the man to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was taken for a CT scan and treated for the other injuries.

Deputies said they spotted Mena's vehicle fewer than 3 miles away and arrested him on a charges of aggravated battery and battery on a person 65 years old or older.

Records show Mena is on probation from a 2015 arrest on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon in Polk County. He was being held Tuesday in the Orange County Jail without bail.
