Man attacks media as arrest made over woman's death

A man ran at two cameramen who were filming the crime scene.

Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a woman in Melbourne's north-east after a man allegedly broke into her home and assaulted her.

Police were called to a house in Liberty Parade, Heidelberg West over an aggravated burglary about 8:00pm.

It is believed a 28-year-old man from Heidelberg West broke into the house before assaulting the 61-year-old woman inside.

The woman died at the scene.

Another man, who likely knew the woman, tried to help and restrained the alleged offender.

A man, who appeared to be covered in blood, ran at two cameramen who were filming the incident behind police tape.

He stomped on the camera and tripod for about 15 seconds.

Police later confirmed this man was not the man who was arrested in relation to the woman's death.

The arrested man was taken to hospital where he remained under police guard this morning.

Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
