Man 'attacks girl with torch after fireworks set off' near woods

A man allegedly hit a girl with a torch for releasing fireworks.

Police were called to reports of an altercation between a man and a group of teenage girls at 10.30pm yesterday (July 14) in Streamleaze Park, Thornbury.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said an attack happened in green open space next to a wooded area, following the alleged release of fireworks.

"The man then struck one of the girls with what appeared to be a torch," he added.

"The girls then ran into Dovedale.

"The girl assaulted suffered a cut to her head and an ambulance was called and she was taken to hospital for treatment for a minor injury."

An ambulance service spokesman said paramedics treated one female patient at the scene and took her to hospital for further care.

Police enquiries into the incident are continuing. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference 5219160792.
