A man has attacked four people with an axe on a packed long-distance train in southern Germany, authorities have confirmed.
The incident took place on Thursday aboard an Intercity Express (ICE) train travelling between Straubing and Plattling in Bavaria. The service was en route to Vienna, the Austrian capital, with around 500 passengers on board.
Police in Straubing said the attacker was detained at the scene and that the victims sustained only minor injuries.
Emergency services, including police, firefighters and paramedics, were deployed to the scene and the railway line was temporarily shut down as a precaution.
No further details have been released about the suspect’s identity or motive. An investigation is under way.
