A group of armed burglars sprayed a man in the eyes with a noxious liquid as they burst into his home to rob his life savings from a safe.

The victim, a man in his 30s, has been left with limited vision in one of his eyes and suffers psychological effects of the brutal burglary on August 14 at 12.30am.

The victim was at his home in William Street, Carshalton hanging out with friends when four men burst in and demanded money.

Two of the burglars were armed with a knife and another had a bottle containing a noxious liquid.

The men emptied £12,000 from a safe before fleeing.

PC Scott Springall, from the local policing team in south London, said: “This incident had had a huge impact on the victim and his family. Not only has his eyesight been damaged, but he also continues to suffer with the psychological consequences of the attack and is coming to terms with losing his savings.

“We have already carried out extensive enquiries and are now in a position to release CCTV of four people we would like to speak to. I am asking members of the public to do the right thing and provide any information that can help us track down those responsible.”
